Yesterday morning there was no wind, the sky was blue, the water flat so I decided it was the perfect day to buy the kayak we'd been considering for nearly two years. All of this came about because my wife wanted to have one kayak rather than two, because she didn't want to paddle/peddle by herself. She thinks it will be better if I do all the work. Now, we're proud owners of a 2012 papaya Oasis. Twenty minutes in the shop, then we rolled it a 100 feet to the water for the maiden voyage. I have follow this site closely, and I want to thank everyone for their opinions which helped me greatly in choosing a new craft. |

Congratulations! My wife & I have owned our Oasis for about 9 months, and we're both still loving it. It is probably the best joint purchase we have ever made. Hope you have the same great experience we have. |

2nd Saturday: impressions Sabiki had to work today, so I decided it would be a good time to try using the Oasis solo. Again Saturday it was mid 70's clear blue sky, light wind. I spend six hours peddling, that's continous. Being a person working on the seventh decade of life I found it's hard to get up out of the kayak after holding your feet on the peddles higher than your butt for that long. So, first piriorty for modification will be heel straps. Thanks for the info Roadrunner. I sat in the front seat with 30 lbs added weight in the rear. The steering reminded me of a car fishtailing all over the place. Next time I solo I will try it in the rear seat to see how that is. Sabiki is already planning a vacation at the shore, that is a relaxing vacation for her and peddling for me ![]() I don't have pictures because I don't currently have a camera that I would take anywhere near the water (no cell phone either). Right now the Oasis is just like off the showroom floor. I will get pictures as I personalize it and post what I've done. Lest but not last, surprise suprise, loading and unloading is easier than my shorter, lighter paddle yak. |
