Post subject:  New Hobie-ite!
Snagged me a nice Outback Sport Hank Parker Edition tonight. Old style rudder, all original accessories, dolly, PFD's, paddle - even the Hobie water bottle, still in the plastic. Boat was used three times by the owner. 90%+ condition... $600.

Id like to move to the Twist-n-Stow rudder and get the seat upgraded. How do I go about doing that?

Congratulations on your new old Hobie! Your rudder is not compatible with the T&S system, but should work fine for you. For best performance, make sure to pull any slack out of the (centered) rudder lines and adjust the center rudder position so it deflects the same in both directions. Don't worry about centering up the handle. Adjustments are easily made at the rudder.

Is there a problem with your seat? I prefer the older style back combined with the i-comfort bottom. You have to do a little custom modification to get it to fit, but it's not difficult. Or you can get the newest seat and adapt it to your old style seat plugs for a direct replacement.

Contact your nearest dealer for any parts. 8)

Okay thanks. The seat is actually like new... Im just thinking it is mighty thin.

Your old style rudder is just fine - the T&S version is not without its issues but the dead simple operation of the original has its merits.

As to the seat, I too prefer the old style back support but the butt pad is a bit thin as you say. I use a closed cell foam pad actually cut from a karrimat (lightweight foam camping matress) that does wonders for my cheekbones (the lower ones).

Alternatively you could try the Hobie inflatable butt cushion: a lot of other Hobie enthusiasts seem to like them and assuming that you don't have a spare closed cell foam pad lying about in your house waiting to be cut up you will probably find that the price of the Hobie accessory is not going to be too steep.

It turns out now that my wife likes the Sport. She may adopt it in time.
I will keep my eye out for a foam butt pad... What about lumbar/back support?
In thinking the Sport is maybe a tad small for extended comfort, anyway..... meanwhile, Im curious about options.
