Post subject: | St Fins Versus ST Turbo Fins |
Hello All, Id love to get some opinions as to the difference in power/speed output between the St and The St Turbo Fins. I am purchasing the New Hobie Revolution 11 soon and Im going to fish from it in sometimes shallow salt waters in New England and I like the idea of going with the slightly shorter ST Fins which are 2.5 inches shorter than the turbos. But I like the idea of having the extra power and speed that the Turbos may provide. If the difference in power output and speed is minimal between the two I would go with the ST but if the difference in potential speed is significant Ill lean towards the Turbos. An thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Turbos, definitely, unless their extra 2.5" of draft really is going to be a problem. Once you have built up reasonable pedalling-muscle strength in your legs the STs will feel little different from the standard fins and rather like pedalling air - and the higher cadence you need to maintain your speed will feel exhaustingly quick and probably a bit frustrating. Don't overlook the fact that the mirage drive is surprisingly effective with just a partial pedal stroke in shallow waters/over obstacles (so that the fins do not pass through the vertical). Obviously the drive will be more effective in this regard with larger fins. However I don't think I would want to spend all day doing partial pedal strokes - so if 2.5" of extra draft really is going to mean that a lot of the time your stroke will be restricted in the waters you play in, you may need to think more carefully about which is going to be the better option for you overall. |

You might want to try the search function for this. Variations of this question have been asked and answered a number of times on this forum. You'll probably get more information from the years of users on this forum than you will from just the ones who are currently active and see your post. |

I spent some serious time hunting/fishing last year on my hobie in shallow water.I don't have a fish finder so I rely on visual judgement of water depth. If you use your kayak without a FF or don't know the area real well, IMO I would get comfortable with the standard fins. (Turbo fins are ++$ if you blow them out on a gravel bar vs. standard fins) |

Ask your dealer and screw both fins at a discount. While you have your wallet out the pain is minimal. I've used both and the answer is you get used to either, it's like walking you find the pace your comfortable with. If your mates use turbo go with them but really it doesn't matter much. Time in the saddle is what is needed. You will love your Revo. |

Check out this thread, it answers just about everything comparing standard, ST and Turbos fins. viewtopic.php?f=71&t=33676&p=134013&hilit=ST+fins#p134013 |

The model boat can dictate if Turbos are worth it or not. I don't see too many Sports out here with Turbos, as most all run ST's. The Revo 11 may be similar. With the Revo 13, Outback and Adventure, I would recommend Turbos. |
