Post subject:  Convert Trac 2 cart to HD wheels

I've had the Trac 2 Cart for 2 years now, and have had to purchased 3 new inflatable wheels from Wheeleez. The first blow-out was from the rubber around the valve stem wearing away, and the last 2 have gone flat from the inside, rubbing against the rim(sand/shells).
I read a previous post where one member mentioned the Trac 2 cart if converted to the HD wheels would give you a wider wheel base. I'm looking to find out what I need to make the conversion and where to get it.
Flat tires suck, and I'm looking for long term dependability.
Thanks
Harley

Harley,
I'm surprised you've had trouble with the Trax2 wheels. They were much better than the Trax1.
I've been using HD wheels for years with both Trax1 and Trax2 carts. The original Hobie HD pnuematic wheel kit was an easy upgrade as it came with the right sized axle adaptor. The newer foam wheels are a bit trickier as the hub size is different (or at least it is downunder). You may need to get an adaptor to go from the 1/2" axle to whatever size wheel hub you will be using. The other mod you'll need to do is use spacers etc as detailed here:

Harley - This suprises me as well. We have had very very few issues with the Trax 2 wheels (polyurethane). The older PVC ones saw some issues like what you've described. Are you sure you are using the PU rather than the PVC wheels? www.wheeleez.com

The current HD carts are awesome. No flats and they use the same frame as the standard carts so its an easy upgrade. The older upgrade kit required an axle conversion sleeve, but now they are all the same. We have to use a unique frame for the Trax carts because of the way the wheels lock onto the axles.

Sorry for the confusion on the cart tires. I'm using the old tires, not the polyurethane one's.
So as I see it here are my options for the HD wheels. What would you recommend?
1. Buy new HD cart $150.00
2. Buy new polyurethane wheels $104.00
3. Buy HD wheels$44.00, sleeves, washers, bushings$22.00 and pins and hope it works at approx. $80.00

Thanks

The different carts are for different purposes. So what are you hauling? What terrain? 8)

Harley,
It will work. My Trax1 cart with the HD wheels has done over 1200kms on 3 sets of wheels (original Hobie HD upgrade, locally sourced pneumatic and now Wheeleez HD) The HD foam wheels are my favourite. It's great not to worry about punctures. :)
I like the solid wider axle on the Trax. Remember the HD wheels will fit the Trax cart but you can't add the balloon wheels to the HD cart easily (unless the HD axle specs have changed?).
I mostly use the HD wheels on hardpack but it's handy to be able to swap back to the balloon wheels when travelling over sand.
