Kit is ready. It is free. I have not yet informed the dealers, but request from them please. # 81410011 MirageDrive Well Retrofit (For Outbacks and Adventures only. Outbacks [older] (corrected by admin) than July of 2003 would not use the bolts part of the kit. Kit includes: Sandpaper Alcohol Swab Molded fiberglass fitting Marine Goop (2) new knobs (in case of some damage) (2) longer bolts (tapered ends) 5/16" allen wrench Instructions Here is the instruction: Hobie Mirage Outback and Adventure drive well strengthening kit. Note: This complete kit may not be needed for older Outback models due to the length of the camlock knob bolts. Outbacks built before August of 2003 (Serial number 3753) should not need the longer bolts. Those boats would have appropriate bolt lengths. Boats built after that serial number are suspect due to a change in the mold shape. It has come to our attention that the camlock knobs can flex out of column under heavy loads. This may allow the knobs to “ratchet†|

Built when? Boats built recently should not need anything but maybe the longer bolts. All stock on hand had been converted last week. The molding process has been changed to cause the forward part of the drive well to have solid plastic, so the fiberglass cup and goop is not needed. |

Matt, I was told by my dealer ...... if the kayak warranty card was sent in, Hobie would be sending the kit to each owner. Is this true? Thanks .... Steve |

My boat was built on 11/28/05. Is there a way to tell, by visual inspection, if the forward part of my drive well is solid plastic? I don't want to install the kit if I don't have to. Also, can you post a photo of the retro kit installed in a drive well? I am a bit confused how the fibreglass fits. Thanks -Jonathan |

Can't believe the timing! Last week, following a 3 hr tour, I emptied about 3 gal. water from my Outback (12/05 build). Upon inspection, I discovered the source. My yak's got a pretty severe crack in the Drive Well where the drive mount shoulder - just ahead of the pitot tube - rests. Needless to say, I'm quite bummed about this. I just got this boat this spring, and though I've already put some significant miles under her, I don't treat her poorly. Now I stumble upon this post from Matt discussing a Drive Well Retrofit. So... Matt, or anyone else . . .does this sound like a repair for me? Thanks...again, Dan in Duluth |

Matt, I read your post that there has been an issue using the GOOP included with the drive well retrofit kits and you've switched to epoxy. What issues have occurred? I have not installed my kit yet. Should I hold off and request the epoxy through my dealer? Thanks, Mike Ganio |

Don't do it if you can wait. There is too much give with the marine goop in my opinion-use an epoxy first if you can. Also check for the crack before you install. But defintely install the longer bolts if you can- they help tremendously. |

The goop may be workable for a boat without a crack already, but we suggest the Epoxy now. You can easily get it from Home Depot. It is a 90 second set epoxy made by Super Glue. Araldite Instant Set. Hulls with cracks are eligible for a warranty replacement. |

Thanks Matt. I will get the epoxy at the Depot but will check closely for any cracks before I proceed. My '05 Outback is yellow (papaya) and I have not experienced anything more than a few drops of water inside. Mike Ganio |
