I have just purchased an outback and plan on keeping it outside. Can anyone suggest a good chain/locking system to secure the kayak ? I plan on securing the kayak to a trailer (when I get it) or an in-ground post. Thanks |

I keep my PA on a trailer with a ball lock and a padlock in the latch of the trailer. I have 2 cable locks run through the scupper holes and attached to the trailer. I bought the cable locks at lowes. |

I have the same set up on my trailer with with my 2 Revolution 11's. If the trailer is not attached to the car, I also like to secure the trailer to something like a lamp post with cable locks to my trailer. |

Love my Outback and want to keep it in the back of my truck while I camp or go inside for a short time. Hobie's have an advantage over other sit-on-tops for securing with cable or chain. That big hole where the Mirage drive sits when on the water can be utilized for chain or cable placement when on the hard. My pick-up has steel tie-downs which I run a cable through and then through the Mirage drive opening. The two ends are then secured with a heavy duty lock. I'm thinking of updating to grade 120 chain with a vinyl covering to provide security from the run of the mill bolt cutters. I don't think I would leave the chain or cable attached through the drive opening while the vehicle was in motion in order to avoid damage to the Click-n-Go mechanism. As with all types of kayak security, none are 100% theft proof. A determined thief with enough time will take out any security system. Mine is designed to discourage the opportunistic thief and perhaps dissuade a little more determined thief. Hope this helps. |
