I just purchased my outback today but I didn't take home yet because they sold out on the PDF I wanted. I can wait a week and I didn't want to temp fate. The real question I have is should I apply a marine wax to the hull to add a degree of protection from the sun? |

But way to protect it from the sun would be to store it out of the sun. |

Taken from "http://www.riptidesandrapids.com/Boats/kayak_faqs.htm" If I wax my kayak, will it be faster in the water? Surprisingly, wax on the hull disturbs the laminar flow of the water molecules as they move past the hull slowing the kayak. This is not something you would really notice but if you plan on racing, don't do it. Most automotive and boat waxes do offer a certain amount of UV protection so waxing the deck will make it look nice and give it some protection from the sun. |

Thanks for the feedback. I was worried that the tannic acid in the water around here would stain the hull. So I thought if I waxed the hull I could save time cleaning up. I appreciate the advice, No wax in this kayak's future. Quote: There are two types of ships, Submarines and Targets.
