Post subject:  The new GT drive and a minor issue

Now I own a new 2015 Outfitter and have tried it last week.
I noticed that the GT drive has to parts that colide against eachother !
These are the drums and the Idle pully in pedal forwarth position.
On long term they will become worn-out a bit on a small spot.
It sheems to me a fault in construction, but easy to repair with two washers that give more space/
distance between the drums. And therefor to avoid collisions with the pully.
Hobie has to do a remeasuring on this to my opinion.
Having said All these , I`m very content with this third Hobie kayak of mine.

May be a very early boat. I believe this was addressed by changing the idler pulley slightly. Contact your dealer to see if they can get the solution from warranty.

I did the washer job, it took me almost two hours to do them two drives with the four washer because of the lose comming
neadles from the bearings. It solved the problem anyhow.
No collisions anymore.
I do not know Yet if the drives fit in the drive bay, but two times 2,4 mm is not that much.
So for so good.
Matt thanks for your reaction.

This appears to be current production from what I am told. The idler shaft area was expanded in diameter to make room for the bearings. It is a tight tolerance but, is not considered a problem. It may vary on cable tension or pedaling style. Only would occur on a full stroke to the stops. Likely a small bevel on the edge of the idler pulley would solve any contact or catching on the drum. The part will wear naturally too. Fyi... It doesn't cause damage to the system function.

Hi Matt,
I think you`re right.
Two small bevels on the idle pully could work as well.
In fact it is a small cosmatic surgary thing.
I`ll keep and tough and report after my next sailing approvall.
Keep up the good work and greetings form Holland. :)
