Post subject: | Anyone redo their rudder cables? |
Just curious if anyone has personally redone their rudder cables/control lines? I'm thinking about replacing the lines in my 2008 Outback. I found this Universal Kit from Hobie: http://www.austinkayak.com/products/332 ... der%20line For the Up/Down control, but haven't seen anything for the steering.. Part of me is thinking I may just take it to a dealer for this one...the other part of me says "You Can Do It!".... Anyone know what it would cost at a dealer? Thanks all and Happy Holidays. |

I've done everything BUT replace the cables..., shouldn't be too bad..... give it a try, worse can happen is you have to take it to the dealer.... |

It is a kit for both steering and up/down. 4 Tubes and 30 feet of extra spectra line. http://www.hobiecat.com/support/mirage-outback/ http://static.hobiecat.com/digital_assets/Twist-n-Stow_Repair_Manual.pdf |

I have used that spectra line on a lot of stuff, it is really strong and durable but slips thru pretty much any knot known to man. The only way I have found it to work is with cinch knots on everything. Hope this helps Bob |

My experience with the process was to have a neighbor with very long arms be able to reach in and get the steering part back into the bracket after tieing the new lines back on the bracket. It can be done. Good luck |

It's easy. Just do one at a time and replicate what is there. If you can't find someone with long arms, just stand the kayak up and let gravity help. |
