Does anyone know where approximately (measured in length from either the bow or stern) the center-of-gravity / fore/aft balance point is on the ProAngelr 14? Will be picking up my new 2015 PA14 and Outback later this week and am rigging an existing trailer to go fetch them. It's about 110 miles each way to my dealer, I don't have access to either yak to make measurements, and I need to set the PVC pipes for the PA14 and the bunk boards for the Outback ahead of time. I have a Malone Micro-Sport trailer I'm outfitting, and want to make sure (or get reasonably close) to having sufficient weight on the trailer tongue (but not too much) so I don't have pulling problems... The weight of the 14 and the outback should not be a problem on tounge weight. I pull the 14 and outback on a Rack and Roll trailer and tounge weight does not play in to pulling to cause a problem. I use the malone wings for the outback... and just the cross bars for the PA 14. About 5 years now and no problems with just using the cross bars for the PA.. hope this helps |

I think the c-g on my PA-14 is about 6.5' aft of the bow....but that is with stuff in the front storage hatch, tackle in the mid box, seat installed and battery in the aft 8" round hatch. I agree with thinwater skinner not to worry about the tongue weight unless you are towing it with a Harley. I have a Hobie Trailex SUT-220-S trailer (15' long) and my tongue weight is on the order of 65 pounds......what makes the tongue heaver is I added the typical trailer "tongue wheel" used to roll it around, spare tire and winch I have mounted on the main frame. It has even heavier until I relocated the axle forward by 24".....Trailex has the axle located quite far aft of the coupler (12') and makes backing it harder with such a long distance from the coupler. Resetting the axle to 10' aft of the coupler solved the two issues of tongue weight reduction and making it easier to maneuver. My PA-14 is resting on 3" schedule 40, PVC parallel pipes with the cross bars about 67" apart center to center......the PA rests nicely on the PVC and "sags to conform to the hull". My tow vehicle is a Subaru Outback and no issues towing the rig...it tracks nicely and launch/recovery/storage is a snap. Enjoy fishing with your new PA-14! |

Dr.SteelHeadCatcher - Any chance you can post a picture or two of your modified SUT-220-S? I just upgraded to a PA14 from a NuCanoe and am trying to get a handle on how much I need to modify my SUT-220-S in order to have either the pvc or hobie cradles fit properly. Most of the trailer mods I've looked at are on trailers with more cross beam support under the length of the pvc than the 200-S offers. I was thinking about just making sure the exiting trailer pads are level, bolting a 2x4 down to each of them to create either a platform for the Hobie cradles or, ideally, the PVC (assuming I don't need to add a third support in between). Any help would be much appreciated! |

Here are two recent photos to give you and idea of my trailer mods. The 11 degree couplers make sliding off to unload and load very easy.....you can see the winch mounted forward.....the winch make all the difference in the world when loading. Since I do not have bearing buddies on the wheel hubs, I never get the axle submerged.
