![]() http://www.wd40specialist.com/products/ ... lubricant/ I've always heard how WD-40 is not a true lubricant and that I should not use it on my reels or mirage drive. So when I saw this new silicone based WD-40 I was instantly curious. Thoughts? |

This is a different product than the standard WD-40 product. It appears they are branching out into other products lately. Branded as a true lubricant, this might be find for lubricating Mirage Drives. Time will tell. |

I used to rinse my mirage drive thourouly and and spray over with wd 40 then apply a thin layer of 3 in 1 to the chains, I can see silcone being better than 3 in 1. Have a can of the wd 40 silicone that I use on my rod spigots. |

They also make one now for garage door torsion springs. It's supposed to be a good lube and rust protectant. I'm pleased with it in its design use, but haven't tried it on anything else yet. I will test it on my MD when boating resumes in Spring. |

I used a different brand on my nylon sail slugs and aluminium mast track. It enabled me to hoist the main with ease as the slugs glided nicely in the track. It lasted well in the weather and didn't seem to attract too much rubbish sticking to it. I still have the spray can but haven't tried it on the TI. It should work ok on the mirage drive. I'll try it and let you know unless Hobie want to advise against it. |
