I recently purchased the necessary "glide tech" parts to upgrade an older V2 drive. As received, I noticed that the glide tech needle rollers are not lubricated. What does Hobie recommend as a lubricant for the needle rollers? In the past I've used anti-washout marine grease on the shaft surfaces for my V2, but it seems that this high viscosity grease would create too much drag if used on the GT needle rollers. I'm thinking a light viscosity lube would be better. What does Hobie use "from the factory" on new GT drive assemblies? |

We use a marine bearing grease. Really only required on the ends of the bearings where they ride on the races. Very little lube required. There has been a number of discussions on what is best. Even a shot of WD-40 does it. |

Breakfree is the lubricant that I most trust for everything. Matt (mmiller) did a lubricant test in 2009. Breakfree came out on top. As I had just purchased a 2009 Outback, I began using it on every metal part. When coming off saltwater, I would rinse the Outback and spray it with Breakfree after every outing. When coming off freshwater, I would spray the Outback every three or four outings. When I sold the Outback in 2014, I do not believe there was a speck of rust on it and I never had an issue with any working parts. The same can be said for my 2013 PA and my 2014 Outback. (I had gotten the 2014 because of the Lowrance ready feature. I recently sold the 2014 and purchased the 2015 because of the vantage seat, of course.) As Breakfree has never failed me, I plan to use it on all parts of my 2015, including the glide drive. Does anyone foresee a reason for switching lubricants due to the glide technology? |

Quote: Matt (mmiller) did a lubricant test in 2009 I can't take credit for that one. I re-posted. roadrunner wrote that 3 part maintenance article for us. It is in the MirageDrive FAQ: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=12577 |

Matt, My apologies for mistakenly pulling your name into this subject. I redirect my kudos to Roadrunner as that experiment put me onto Breakfree, which has served my purposes very well. |

GT Bearings Aerosol Penetrating Lubricant Water displace With PTFE No CFCs Great for derailleurs, cables, brake levers GT85: Soon after the launch of GT-85, supplies were being snapped up by MOD workshops. The lubrication reservoirs are dispersed in a special way over the bearing surface, therefore the whole bearing surface is lubricated when the movement occurs. GT bearings show excellent performance without lubrication under conditions of low speeds and extreme high or low temperatures. |
