Notice grease coming out at the pins , is this normal? How does one replace the grease as I'm sure it's there for a reason. ![]() |

Is probably just extra grease from the build. They use marine grease so it should hold up. When you rebuild the drive in a few thousand miles you will tear it all apart and can re-grease the shaft then. |

I shouldn't get overly concerned: I have had the same drive since my very first Hobie... probably sometime around 2006/7. It has had a hard life on the sea and is still going strong despite never having been greased since the day it was born. I don't run it into sand but I always wash it down after a trip and all I really do is give it an occasional squirt of WD40 or CRC spray lubricant - but that only because it seems like the right thing to do. |

It's good to have enough grease on the main shaft so that it oozes out, especially if you use it in saltwater. It will help to keep the shaft sand and corrosion-free. I do a total tear-down and re-grease once a year, and always grease that shaft heavily. Just wipe off the excess once in a while if it becomes too much. |

As the previous replies indicate, this is normal and wiping up with a paper or shop towel is all that's needed. One thing that will "encourage the grease to leak/ooze out" is spraying the shaft bearing location with WD-40......it will soften up the grease and cause it to run making more of a mess. |

I sprayed "LANOX" on my 2008 Mirage drive chain before first use use, and periodically, and it has never given a problem. It has a Lanolin base so does not dry out like WD40 or CRC and it also gets under light rusting making it easier to remove. Good for all Marine lubrication and anti corrosion metal protection. http://www.inoxmx.com/applications-uses ... -for-inox/ |
