Hello everyone -

New to forum but thought I'd tell everyone our good news. My wife and I just bought our first kayak, a 2014 Mirage Oasis. We plan on taking it back and forth from Lake Winnipesaukee, NH to our winter home in Gainesville, Florida. Lots of springs and rivers in Florida to explore and during summer a fantastic lake to travel. We're psyched. What do you all suggest as mods for trips but not fishing?

Got a spray bottle of that repellent right here! :D Don't want to sail but thanks for the suggestion. I think we will do one set turbo and one set ST, thanks. Roller bearings? Haven't heard of those, is it a Hobie mod or do they come from somewhere else? Thanks.

Congratulations on your new Oasis! To start out, a plug-in cart is a great accessory -- lets you roll the boat instead of carrying it. The "standard" cart will easily handle the Oasis in all but soft sand. Personally I really like Hobie's i-comfort seat pad for greater seating comfort but a lot of folks find the standard seat bottom quite adequate. Other than that, the boat comes pretty complete IMO.

The roller bearing Drive is new for 2015 -- makes it easier to pedal. I don't think it's anything you need to get at this time but maybe something to look into down the line.

There are plenty of tips on the forum discussing safety equipment, maintenance, rigging, loading and transportation, etc. 8)

NH to Florida by kayak - yea THAT SOUNDS LIKE A TRIP ! It is WAY more than I could ever attempt but I'm sure someone has done it, right?

Well I made my first modification. I have lupus amongst other conditions and must limit I sun exposure. I usually wear Coolibar UV shirts for that but since we will be out in the sun and also the reflection from the water I chose to make a sun shade. The Hobie one is no longer available so here's what I came up with. The holder is a Bag Boy umbrella holder
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/311264113382

and the umbrella is an Izzo
http://www.amazon.com/Izzo-Golf-A56050- ... B00I95HU9W

So I mount the holder on the boat and stick the umbrella in it - off we go!
