I bought a Tricam Load Extender ($69 from Home Depot) for transporting my Kayak. It works fairly well but needs padding to protect the hull of the boat. Does anyone know of a source for inexpensive pads that can be wrapped around a 2" square cross member? Thanks! |

large pool noodles work well...if they need to be more durable you get the thick plumbers black tape and wrap them to keep the sun from eating them and dragging the yak across them from chewing them up....Ive been using them for a few years now. |

I found even better than pool noodles and also very cheap is pipe insulation. They come in a few different thicknesses -- what's nice is they usually have adhesive tape on them so you just wrap it around your bar, remove the tape, and it stays put easily. I've had a set on my rack for over a year and they have never come off. I think they cost me something like $2 at Home Depot. |

Those are both great ideas. I did try the pool noodle but it didn't sit well on the large square crossbar. I think I will give the pipe insulation a try. Thanks! |

did you take the cross bar off and slide the noodle on the bar?? Works great for me. |

The cross bar has a metal tab welded to each end of it. The tabs extend up a few inches so sliding the noodle on will not work. Thanks! |
