One of my Hobie Kayaks is a 2010 Adventure -- it's my favorite boat because it's the fastest. And it's also developed a leak -- each trip I have about 2-3 gallons of salt water inside her. From *where*???? Driving me crazy. I took the boat to my local dealer, and they checked it out with a light, and the soapy water and air pressure trick. Nothing. At home I filled it 1/3 full of water, left it overnight, and no water on the concrete. So I figure it was to be related to the drive well and pedal drive - maybe a crack that opens under the torque? I sure can't see anything. Finally, just now, I unscrewed the click-n-somethings, so see if the plastic was cracked around the embedded hex nuts. Nope. ??? I've checked the plug(s) of course. I'm truly stumped. It's not enough to be dangerous, but after a full day of fishing it gets slow and it's a pain in the *ss sponging out saltwater and killing my grass. :/ Steve |

I had a similar issue with my '11 AI. Couldn't find the source using the usual methods. Finally discovered it with the hull on the water and slightly pressurising it using a rechargeable airbed pump pushed into the upper drain hole. No bubbles at first anywhere but pressing down on the rear deck caused a stream of bubbles from the scupper tube. It was a hairline crack. If you have eliminated the most common leak areas, the front hatch and drivewell ledge as the source, other problem areas are: -scuppers -screw in fittings, especially the front hatch bungee fittings. -seat peg holes |

Thx Stringy - if I can find some calm water, that sounds like a good way to check for a leak. You also gave me some areas I hadn't thought to examine. |

I am having the same problem with my 06 Adventure. Already did a light check to no avail (did find some thin plastic though). I haven't pressurized it yet since my lake is in a draw down this month. I thought it may be where the rudder lines come through the boat. During the pressure test, how do you keep air from seeping through those same rudder line holes? I will check what is noted here though as well. I have to wonder, if it is coming through the seat area. My butt was wet for an entire week in that seat. |
