Post subject:  Proper hardware for installing spinlock on Outback rail

I want to install a Spinlock PXR cam cleat, which is a sort of quick-release cleat for a sailing sheet (rope), on my Outback, which I think is a 2012 model. I want to put it on the rail to the right of the seat. I think it could go just behind the steering handle. This will be the first time I have drilled into the hull myself as opposed to having the dealer do it. The footprint of the cleat is only 3 1/8 inch x 1 inch at the widest point. The pre-drilled holes in the cleat are 5/32 inch and they are around 1 3/4 inches from each other.

My question is, what hardware to use to attach them. Just a screw? Or a machine bolt with a nut on the inside of the kayak hull? And do I do anything special to avoid leaks from the hole - any kind of goop?

Always best to go with a stainless bolt, washer & nylock nut if you have access. To keep watertight, just drill the hole slightly smaller than the diameter of the bolt.
Make sure you check your rudder lines, so you don't cut them or interfere with their movement.
