I want to buy a 2016 quest 13 but I have a question about getting a twist and stow rudder installed. The twist and stow rudder that I had installed on my 2006 quest had the up and down system with ropes running outside the kayak. To raise and lower the rudder I just pulled on the rope. It worked ok, but I wasn't crazy about this method. I was hoping if I buy the new quest and have the rudder installed there will be up and down handles like I have on my 2015 outback. I like the changes in the new quest but hope I don't have to pull on ropes to get the rudder up and down. Would like to know before I buy. Any info or pictures would be very helpful. Thanks.

The rudder kit for the new Quest still has the lines running outside the hull. I just recently installed this kit on one of our new Quests...photo to come.

This should be the same as the ruder install you did on your previous Quest?

while on the topic of quest rudders, if you want to install the larger rudder you just have to modify it by cutting a bit more out off the internal angle of the blade to clear the extended keels on quests. Easy and well worth it.

The current quest profile seems a slightly better ergonomic fit (to me anyway) than the older one, and not quite as wet. Step down in the footwell seems to reduce water spillage into seat. They may even ride slightly higher.

I bought the new quest last Friday. I'm waiting for the up/down kit to be delivered to the dealer and installed. After talking to his Hobie contact he assured me he can install the up/down system just like the Mirage drive models have. It will probably be Sometime next week before I can pick it up. Will post pictures.

I picked up the new Quest August 1st with the rudder insalled just like the mirage drive yaks. Have been fishing with it and it works great and looks much better with this setup. Sorry for not posting pictures...I haven't done it on this site yet.

Would be interesting to see how that was managed on a quest, would have thought it was a couple of cable holes short at the back. Never really understood why paddle yaks have it externally unless its for ease of aftermarket assembly as its optional

Huh????

Surely thats a revo with a vantage seat? If so why is rudder cables outside? Unless hobie is installing vantage seats on quests now?

EDIT: just saw update release

2017 Quests will have vantage seat. As for the feedback on the rudder kit, thanks for the feedback guys. It's definitely being taken into consideration.

I wonder what it will cost with the new seat? I am sure it won't fit in my 2016 Quest. I'm happy with my quest, but had I'd known about the changes I would have waited for the 2017...never thought they would put that seat on the quest. I sold my 2007 outback and bought 2015 outback last year. Like the seat except for the creaking noise.

Inevitable really, as all the other leader manufacturers are already doing it and hobie already have the seat tried and tested, necessary hull modes are just copies of revo. So its only a change of tooling and molds.
