Is this possible without messing with structural integrity of hull

yak in question revo 16. I am never going to use this sail post for its intended purpose. If the bottom of hull gets flattened due to say leaving on ground/strapping down etc, then a pronounced bump and subsequent wear point can form on underside.

Additionally if this post were not there then it might be possible to put an access hatch in the bulkhead for fish storage etc. Would this even mess with structural integrity?

Mods would need to be done by someone proficient in plastic welding. But is it feasible, and has anyone ever done it?

If there was a non sailing version of the revo 16, the mast post could be removed, footwell shortened a tad and a purpose made accessible fish storage section designed between footwell and front hatch, which would make it more fisho friendly, and increase sales to this market

Would lose some structure for the firewall area I guess... but you can easily remove it to see. There is a slot indide the tube at the bottom that fits a large slotted screw driver. Threads out like a screw (threads at the deck connection).

Might give it a shot. Is there anything i could used to screw back into the top threaded hole to plug it? Other than chopping and butchering the existing tube in case I need to reinstall. Probably good if i could find an old one off a scrapper to chop up and uses as a plug, rather than welding it up

Could probably sort out some kind of alternative bracing if necc

I like it because it adds structural integrity to the boat. For fishermen, some use it as a mounting platform for GPS/fishfinders.

If you take it out, you can tape the opening w/ clear shipping tape and see how you like it. The tape sticks well and should last a couple of months at least. You should be able to screw it back in, cut it down to about 1/2" depth or less and epoxy a plastic plate across the bottom. That clears the internal space and retains a finished appearance (more than plastic welding). There are probably other options as well. 8)
