I do a lot of hot-weather, direct-sun kayaking in my AI... I have found the clothes from Solumbra to be ideal. Very expensive, but very light -- despite being fully covered, I'm not hotter than if I wear a T-shirt and shorts.

For a top I use the Super Active Shirt
For pants, the Ultra Athlete Pants

The pants work great for pedaling: they're roomy, very breathable, and dry quickly when wet. I admit I look a little geeky in the them, but...

You don't need anything fancy. Just about any piece of clothing gives sun protection. The question is how cool do you need to stay and safety if man overboard. I found these Chinese suppliers great on ebay, always order 2 to 3 sizes bigger than advertised. $5 to$6 a piece
