The drive isn't releasing on its own like the FAQ talks about. The right side click-n-go is loose around the drive's drum shaft. The left click-n-go holds it tightly with no movement. I didn't notice any other forum posts about this. A search of the forum mostly just showed people having it pop open from the shaft turning against a tightly holding lock.

It isn't crazy loose. The drive can just move up and down within the click-n-go latch. Can I unscrew the click-n-go's plastic covers without parts (springs, ball bearings) going everywhere? It looks like the cover is part of the stop for the latch and is holding it short of contacting the drive's shaft. I could Dremel away some of the cover to give more movement for the latch if that is all that stops the latch.

The shaft is 1/16 longer on the left side but I doubt I can drift mallet it 1/32 back to the right to even it up. I bought this kayak new two weeks ago. Four paddles so far on it. Other than that, it is working fine ether paddling or peddling.

Sounds like you have this figured out. The lever is being prevented from full rotation. Yes, you can remove the assembly from the hull. That requires a 3/16" ball end allen wrench. Then you can get the cover off to see what is going on.

You can tap the shaft to center it. 1/16" is nothing important though. It can get bumped off center by dropping the drive on its side on the ground or something.

The latch cover came off without removing the assembly from the hull. It is just two phillips screws. The metal stop tab on the latch is just flared a bit on the inside radius of it's 90 degree bend. The flare hits the mount first rather than the designed flat area of the latches' stop tab. I am taking a jewelers file to it removing a little material before each trip. Eventually, I will get the latch to just contact the drive's shaft without a gap. No hurry, I think.

Now that I have looked at it, I don't think it really matters if the drive moves around in the click-n-go a bit. Both the click-n-go and the shaft look to be easily replaced if they ever become worn down or notched from movement.

Lateral movement is typical, but vertical should be minimal. Once the lever can close all the way, it should be pinned in will slight movement possible.
