As far I can see this is not a one way flow item, contrary to what I think i have read previously. So having it open water drains out when underway, but then flows back in when you stop. Having it closed means seat well doesn't drain when you are swamped, and this can hold a lot of water (approx 18liters/kg) adding weight and instability, and hence inadvisable
So what is the recommended set and forget mode? Surely its not intended to manually open to drain then manually closing when drained? Thats just not practical, and would take a level of obsession to do.
If debris collects under the bung, and as its under seat you cant see or clear it, then its not going to seal and water will seep in regardless,eventually filling to loaded waterline even in flat conditions with no water coming overboard
I just leave it cleated open and can see no practical need for the bung and cord. The venturi housing underneath simply helps it drain faster while travelling. Any reason not to just remove the bung and cord as thats just extra clutter, and potential to have it closed without realizing it.
If this had a reliable one way arrangement it would make sense, but that would then be prone to blockages.
Talking about a revo 16 where seat well is below water line.
