Hey Hobie Friends, I just received a Hobie Outback 2008 from some family and discovered that their is a crack in the hull. It looks like two separate cracks underneath where the mast support is. The hull looks slightly bulged out as well. The center support on the inside is cracked which is probably causing the hull crack and bulging. That appears to have been weld / repaired in the past. The bottom of the boat should see a brass fitting exposed where the white spec is. The inside looks burnt. |

Do you think just the bottom had a new piece melted to it to cover a crack? I can re melt the plastic on the bottom to cover some of those cracks. I am worried about the center support. I do not like the crack in it and what looks like the bottom moving away from the normal position. I am not sure how to fix that. Also, I am not sure that the kayak is actually leaking. I might test it this weekend. |

That is an original Outback from Early the 2000's - that's the way we made the early mast supports. You could weld over yes. I wouldn't recommend using the mast receiver for a sail kit. It's likely not strong enough. |
