Hi all, This is potentially my first Hobie! I've been looking at them for awhile, but haven't made the plunge. I was offered a 2016 rental model (Dealer quote: Hi Bob, Wondering if you were still interested in a Hobie Tandem Island. We are getting ready to offer our rental model for sale. This will sell for $4,899+ tax.) for just under $5K. Is there a fundamental difference between the 2016 and what's coming in 2018? I really don't need to store it all winter, but can do it easily if needed. If the $5K isn't the right price, what should I offer? |

If you are ordering one expect to pay full MSRP, if you get a new one towards the end of the season 10-15% is norm from what i have seen. Rentals it all depends on condition. A 16 model doesn't have the 180 drive. I use mine a lot if i solo it and never use it with two people (i flip my old drive around so i control going backwards and my wife peddles forward). And only really need to go backwards in and out of dock spaces. If you beach launch id never use it. I think that is the major difference between 16-17s. 18's get the v2 180 and no Papaya color. 5k is ok deal pending condition. i think demos still get two years from purchased date. Bargain a little. Just my opinion but if the rental is in good condition, and you get a warranty, then that seems like a pretty fair price. I sat in the back seat and used my paddle to back up this past summer. Works like a charm... |

$5k for a 2016 is a steal. I paid $6,300 for my 2017. However, i do use the 180 md and the reverse has saved my life a few times. But i dont think the $1k is worth the getting the 2017. That is just my opinion. And if you do get the 2017, hobie is giving all V1 189 md an upgrade to V2 for free. Just my .02 cents Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
