Is there a trick to this when replacing a sprocket.

I can't get the fins to line up properly.

With pedals held together... Assuming the chains are on the correct teeth of the sprockets, you might have to tension or loosen the nuts on each end of the chains to keep the fins centered. Ultimatly the forward chain is supposed to be tighter than the aft. Also, as you tension the idler cable, it tensions the forward chain.

It is not critical to the function to have them perfectly aligned... get them within a few degrees.

Got it thanks.

Turned out the chain on the sprocket I did not replace was the problem.

Evidently a link or two got loose enough during disassembly , the chain jumped a tooth or two such that the teeth of this sprocket were out of alignment.

Here's a tip based on applying Matt's comments.

When you hold the pedal assemblies together vertical the sprocket not replaced should be centered on its shaft so the teeth are on the underside, and the blank section on top. That fin should hang straight down.

Once I got that right, it was a simple matter of making sure the replaced spocket was similarly aligned with it's fin also hanging straight down before pulling the chain around it. If you leave the tension device unattached it makes it simple to rotate the sail out of the way.

Matt - I forgot the tension fwd should be tighter. Thanks again.
