Hey everyone, I have a 2018 Hobie Outback, I live on a nice size river and I really enjoy the Outback so this is not a complaint story. When I purchased my kayak I made the adjustment for the pedals right away, I am 6'3" and there was a setting perfect for me. Fast forward a year and my grandson asked if he could take it out and when I went to adjust the pedals one of them would not push the pin out so I could change the setting. I did some research online and was not able to find a way to repair the spring loaded tension that is not moving the pin. Has anyone had to make this repair and if so could you please share how to do it, thanks so much. It is the drive with the adjustment button at the top, not on the side.

Have you tried to shoot/saturate it with WD40 to loosen the pin?

Thanks, the pin will move manually which is how I was able to make the adjustment but pushing down on the adjustment button has no effect. It seems as though the tension spring has failed or whatever gives the pin the spring loaded feature when you push down on the button. I suppose there may be a replacement part or at worst the entire arm must be replaced. I am a little surprised as it is not a part that is used in the year that I have owned the kayak, a couple of times the first time I sat in it and this time.

I am back again to see if maybe anyone else has had the same problem with their drive unit. I went back to my dealer and they told me to bring them the drive and they will send it off to be repaired which is very good of them. But I was hoping to better understand the problem to repair it myself and understand what the issue is should it happen again.

There is a spring that pushes the pin into the drum... The button on top slides a fixture under the pin to pull it out of the drum. The early springs were weaker, so maybe with some corrosion is has become this way.

Yes, there is no tension at all, like the spring has moved out of place. The question I have is how to repair it, thanks for any feedback.

Likely needs a new crank arm... complete. Warranty can do that for you.

I wanted to wrap up my mirage drive issue, I brought it back to my dealer (Massey's Outfitters), they had it repaired in about five days, I picked it up (no charge) and it works fine. Happy to have a Hobie that I bought from a really good company. They also loaned me a drive while mine was being repaired. Very thankful!
