NEWBIE KAYAKER....

I’m looking for a used kayak for my GF. I found a 2013 Hobie Mirage Revolution 11 in California for $1,600... Blue, Super clean.

They probably paid $2,000 for this back then. Current model is $2,600.

Should I buy, or should I keep Looking? My gut tells me to offer $1,300 and settle on $1,450?

What are the issues that I should look for, found that there is cracking by the drive area so far.

Thanks for reading and responding!

Take a look at the Passport. Brand new kayak for a good price. 10 foot 5".

The 2013 would have the old style seat which is not nearly as comfortable as the current seats. It would be better to get a Hobie 2015 or newer.

Would also have a pre GT drive. Not that that is essential but it is a value point.

I have both the '11 and a '14 Revo 11s and personally prefer the lower center of gravity the older seats provide. I use the i-comfort seat pad with it and find it quite comfortable. You do get a wet butt with the old seats pretty easily so if that is an issue, then a '15 or newer model might be preferable. The 2013 "V-2" Drive is every bit as durable as the newer GT Drive (2015 and newer), but has a little more friction. It can be upgraded for about $150 to $250 (depending on whether you are adding Turbofins).

You should have no cracking issues in the drivewell area on this boat. 8)
