Post subject:  Replacement Bow/Stern Handles

Hi all,

If I wanted to add handles to the bow and stern of the kayak (bought kayak without them on there), what is a good brand to buy that would be cheaper than the Hobie brand? Just trying to save a little money.

Thanks!

Get some 3/4 inch schedule 40 PVC (hardware store) or whatever you have laying around. Cut it with a PVC cutter or hack saw to about 4 1/2 inches in length. Drill a small hole in the middle. Pass your cord through the hole and tie a knot inside the PVC as shown. "Parachute cord" works great if you don't have something handy. It also makes a great emergency line or mooring line to carry on your boat. 8)

Thanks, Roadrunner!

I might look into that, although I noticed the YakGear handles on Amazon. I'll keep you updated!

I ended up buying a set of two YakGear handles from my local West Marine ($9.99 for set).

I dont thread mine through the padeye, I loop them through a stainless steel clips then once in the water remove them and clip them somewhere else for storage,. Got sick of fishing lines getting tangled around. When you loop the cord on itself like the originals, the knot becomes a frey and failure location.

You can also use lawnmower cord pull handles
