Post subject:  Extra hatch on Hobie Revo 13

Hi there. I just got a brand new Hobie Revo 13 and I am in the process of rigging it up for fishing. I see on the back behind the seat there is a circle that looks to be for a cut out for an additional 8" round hatch. I just wonder if that would work with the grooves that are there for the water to flow to the scupper holes. Has anyone added a hatch right there on the Revo? Honestly I would like to install a rectangle one there, just worried about it not sealing properly with the grooves there. I'm coming from fishing off of a Cobra Marauder which had a TON of storage space. This will definitely take some getting used to, but I'm stoked non the less......Thanks for any advice!

Hi Kim. Congrats on your Revo 13! I have looked at doing this on my 2016 Revo 13 but after looking at it I'm almost certain I will have leaking issues at some point. Then I realized if I take out the bucket from the 8" round hatch in front of the seat there is a lot of space in the hull. I glued pool noodles inside the kayak hull (under the seat and on each side of the mirage drive well) to create a large storage space. I can fit 5 Plano 3600 tackle boxes in this area now. I also added a foam pad to the bottom of my plastic tackle boxes to help keep them from sliding but I've place my wallet in this area and not had any issues with losing it in the hull.

Hey Swfinatic, thanks for your reply. Yeah thats what I pretty much figured. With the grooves there I think eventually I would have problems with a leak which is the last thing you want especially if you are going to venture out into the ocean. Thats a good idea with the pool noodles. I just started tricking this thing all out. Got a bunch of Yak Attack railing to install my fish finder and rod holder on. I think I am going to really miss my flush mount rod holders that I had on my Marauder, there was 6 total, I used the ones behind the seats and the two in the front mostly.
