I've struggled in the past with an outback, and now I have a Compass, almost 20lbs lighter but still awkward at 12 ft long. Being 73, pretty good shape but vertically challenged at 5'6", I was searching for an "easy" way to load my new boat on top of my F-250 with a Snugtop shell and Yakima round bar racks. You-Tube to the rescue. Check out "The easiest way to load your kayak on top of your car or truck" by Flukemaster. Seriously, no cost solution that is as simple and easy as he says. He saved me about $500 bucks. Check it out. |

A disadvantage of using a strap to protect the side of your vehicle is that the strap puts a lot of stress on the roof rack. I protect the side of my vehicle with a towel when loading my kayak onto my roof rack. See https://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/i ... #msg204958. |
