Post subject: | Hull Bend in Adventure |
Just purchase my first kayak, a Hobie Adventure. I really like a lot. I have taken it to the water 3 times, but to my surprise when I was cleaning it today I notice a bend ( or cave in ) in the botton of the hull, right underneed the tank well or storage area. I transport the kayak in the bed my truck and to give it enough support I purchase a "bed extender". Well, It was there that the hull bend, even with ta padded cover on the "extender" I don't know how will affect the perfomance of the hull, but I am already disappointed. I was going to purchase a Revolution for my wife as wedding aniversary gift (next week), but that is on hold now. I am now thinking in a Hurricane Phoenix, made of Trylon, that won't bend as the plastic hulls. The bend or cave in area is very difficult to reach. I don't think that can be fixed. My advise to kayakers purchasing Adventure hulls and using truck beds as a way of transport is to put a long piece of plywood between the bed extender and the hull. ![]() |

Hi machetero and welcome to the forum. Let your boat sit in the sun upside down and the dent should come out. Your owners manual has some important information about how to properly store and transport the kayak -- essentially on its side or upside down, but NOT on the bottom. Let us know how it works out! ![]() |

RoadRunner thanks for you advise. Probably was my fault. I think that when I secure the kayak to the bed I put to much pressure in the area where the hull meet the bed extender. That area look like that is the weakest point in the botton of the hull. Following you advise I went to the yard and put the kayak upside down. Looking it that way is really no that bad. Let see what happen tomorrow when the Sun hit the hull. You post about Adventure Vs Revolution was great. It convince me to purchase the Adventure. |
