I bought a tandem Mirage Oasis yesterday for $450. The very nice older lady told me that she only used it two or three times and iclaimed it was only four years old. She said she paid over 3k for it. It was quite dirty and has all torn bungees and map holder but she said this was all due to being out in her yard. Came with seats and peddles. Surely this sweet older woman wouldn’t be fooling me so I bit and bought it. Brought it home last night and I found how to locate serial numbers after much difficulty locating the parts I want. The last two digits are 08 and indicate it’s a 2008. I’m quite disappointed more so to think such a nice lady was being deceptive. That’s my fault and I just have to deal with it. My question is, how bad did I do by spending $450? I’m putting another $200 in parts I need. The hull doesn’t appear cracked or damaged. It cleaned up okay, just all the elastics need replacing and I’m struggling to find the cassette plug and correct pad eyes online. Lesson learned: old ladies can be ruthless. Don’t be a trusting dummy like I was. ![]() |

For $450 I would say you stole it! Oasis is a great boat. New ones are about 5K. |

Was it left out in the sun? The sun is what will kill it. Take a Home Depot 5 gallon orange bucket and leave it outside for a few years ...it will get dry and brittle. I did that for a test and the lip started cracking and color changed. Bucket is now only good for holding up the tongue on my trailer. I am not expert as I am new to Hobie too, but if boat is not cracked you are probably ok. Just don't store it out in the WX going forward. |

Does sound like you were lied to, but in my view you still got into kayaking with a good brand for not much money. You will probably spend some more on the repairs you mentioned plus adding some accessories but you should get several more years out of this kayak and if you eventually decide to upgrade you may be able to transfer the accessories over. |
