I have read all the forum posts I can find. I need to service my older V2 drives, and one QT drive. It sounds like grease should be used in the hub and idler shafts. Marine grease is recommended but I find it can stain my yellow kayak or anything else it gets on. So I am thinking a non-petroleum grease would work and not stain. Something like Super Lube perhaps. Any recommendations? |

It's a bit pricey but if you're looking for the ultimate grease then it's hard to beat Dupont Krytox. |

I’ve been servicing my mirage drive for a decade. If grease from your drive is getting on your kayak, you are using WAY too much. You just need a very thin film of grease. |

I recently fixed a cheap clone of the early drive. It had drive disengagement issues due to the shaft rotating when pedaling. There was a good amount of squeaking as well. I took out all the shafts and used a light coat of SuperLube with PTFE. Silicone lubricants tend to creep/migrate so I wouldn't use too much. The drive is very smooth and no more disengagement. |
