Post subject: | FIn repair after line cut damage |
Saw a post somewhere about fin cuts due to fishing line etc. I have had a couple fin cuts and one mast poke through due to grounding. All on the ST fins. I have done a repair on the fins. Using acetone I cleaned all areas really well then applied shoe gooo and allowed to cure for a few days. The areas "seem" to be solid, though none too pretty. Here are some pics. I am putting them back on (and carring my old ones as spares) and I will report back ob how well the repairs hold up. I have so far used the shoe gooo to attach a keel protection patch at the back end which gets drug through the dirt when loading and it is still there after two months. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Shoe gue, Krazy glue, Loctite product, all seem to work from my personal experience and reports I have heard |

OK, went out today for a couple hours and fought the outgoing current hard. Everything is still holding. |

Mine did the same thing. I glued them back with stuff called "goop" from Ace hardware. |

Yep, I think most any rubber type cement will work. I do believe I should have roughed up the fin area some in addition to the cleaning with acetone, as the edges are coming loose. If I have to re-do it I will rough it with sand paper etc. I was also thinking of maybe using something like plastic screen material to act as a strengthening medium, kinda like fiberglass cloth does. |
