Besides the anti-washing-machine-shroud, security cable, and turbo-fins, I've gooped a section of tubing to the MirageDrive mounting points (fore and aft) to eliminate an annoying clunk resulting in a snugger fit, clunk-free ride... A quiet ride and no rub/wear points...worksforme! Also... The high-viz safety flag now has a white uni-directional position light taped to the tip for better dusk to dawn attention... The front red & green position light offered by Hobie is excellent but quite blinding and in-you-face...I zip tied some dark craft foam to cover the light facing to the rear...all the difference to see and be seen! R&R standard rudder with the sailing rudder...much better rudder effect! Small GPS/Sounder mounted in the drink holder for easy access by my right hand/cold wet fingers...mark hazzards, sand bars, etc...NO worries! Replaced front and real anchor pulley system "D" rings with block rollers...smooooth! High Viz reflective tape fore and aft on fuselage so "Search and Rescue" will find my boat in the Gulf Stream...'still no black box... Slowly but surely getting better and better! ![]() ![]() |

Nice mods. What size tubing did you use to fit over the ends of the drive? |

Post subject: | tubing to snug up the fit... |
3/4" (I think) on hand scrap RV water tubing...thinner clear tubing would be fine...the intent is to snug up the fit and stop any movement, wear, and clunking... If you bring the drive unit to a local hardware store, you'll know the fit is right... you only need a few inches...splurge! Just tight enough to be snug...then a little marine goop to hold it in place. Cheers This is the sort of thing that happens when a technical background collides with free time... |
