Post subject:  Twist and Stow Rudder on Quest

Has anyone installed a twist and stow rudder on a Quest? How does the up/down mechanism work and is there an up/down handle and where does it mount in the boat? Is the mounting bracket for the rudder on the transom of the boat different than the one used for the dagger style (Navigator) rudder?

Thanks.

hi there , i installed a twist and stow on my quest a few weeks ago, uses a rope system running from the rudder and up the side of the kayak to just beside your seat looped through a pad eye,,, you just pull the knot in the rope furtherest away from you to deploy and lift...( no handle) dont know if the bracket is different from the dagger style...............

Same question here!

Will a standard Hobie replacement rudder fit my Quest?

The stern has 2 vertical placed inserts , 52 mm apart (bit less than 2 inches)

Yes - there is a rudder 'kit' sold by your dealer that includes a mount that will fit the inserts on your transom. Part #78501 It includes all the hardware and lines needed to make your Quest a foot controlled steering kayak. Call toll free 1800hobie49 to order the kit from your nearest dealer.

Thanks for answering!..., but

The complete set for the Quest cost $150 :?
A standard replacement rudder with bracket $50 :D

As the Quest comes with the controlpeddles why should I spend an extra $100 on lines?

So my question still stands, does a standard Hobie (replacement rudder) fit the Quest :?: .

Is this also the standard twist & stow rudder bolt pattern used on the mirage driven Hobies?

No, the standard T & S rudder mount is molded in -- looks like this:

There is a T & S kit listed for the Quest in the '07-'08 parts catalog, part # 78501. 8)
