Post subject:  Pedal Adjustment
Ice is off the lake and I just had to have my first outing on my Outback... yes I got wet - It was a cold lake

Pedals adjustment is set at 7. I am attempting to move them as shown in the instructions. I am putting a lot of pressure on the adjuster handles but they are not coming free. The metal pins in the crank moves but not much.

One side of the cables may be too tight as per this link

Any suggestions on how to adjustment the pedals?

Hi Gumdrop.

Your pedal position adjustment has nothing to do with the link in your post.

Each pedal arm has a retraction lever (squeeze arm) mounted on the inboard side (provided your Drive is less than about 5 years old). At the bottom of the squeeze arm is a hidden spring. By squeezing the bottom of the arm against your crank arm, the pin should fully retract out of the drum.

If the arm is binding, hit everything liberally with WD-40 (including the pin), or manually push the pin from the opposite side of the drum so you can see exactly how it retracts.

Unless there is sand lodged in the mechanism, it normally operates easily once you get used to it. Hope this helps. 8)

Brand new but not the new style drive. I bought the kayak from Bass Pro, a dealer would have been a better buy. It sounds so simple, but I don't get it.

I found a dealer over 100 miles away. I will make the trip.

there should have been a Hobie Kayaks owners packet as well, warranty info, owners manual, dvd, the works!

FYI I do no think the big box stores are Hobie dealers anymore.

Hey Mr Gumdrops
I got the Hobie Kayaks DVD. PM me and I will be more than glad to send it to you. Mine you just sqeeze the plastic thing about 8" below the paddle one side at a time and move it . Mine was at 2 and I had to adjust it to 6 when I adjusted it to 7 it struck the cockpit. Later

Hobie customer service is great. I bought my Outback Fish from Bass Pro, it was short the dry bag, scuppers and an 8 inch gear bucket was broken. Bass Pro asked me to call Hobie. Hobie sent all via one phone call on Monday, I had it on Thursday. This is unbelievable customer service.

Now I learn about a DVD. One email and it is in the mail. You got to love Hobie. :D

I read a bunch of stuff befor I bought my yak. From what I read I decided you cant go wrong with buying a Hobie. I tried a couple of yaks out. And I knew behind the shadow of a doubt that I was going to have to put stabilizers on it. I seen Aplachs post about outriggers and how good they looked. So I decided to buy a Outback got it home then took it over to my neices swimming pool and figured out this thing don't need any kind of stabilizers. Hobie is the best. I would'nt even consider any other kind. Keep it up Hobie. We love you. 8) 8) 8)
