If you have one of the older style Drives, Here are a pair of updates that will make your Drive easier to use.
This first mod applies if you have the older pedal adjustment pins that look like one of these:
The mod involves upgrading to the current pedal adjustment assembly (pn#81236). For about $20 per pair, it's a great convenience upgrade for a reasonable price.
Tools needed -- two 9/16" wrenches (note, the 5/64" Allenhead wrench shown here is included with the kit).
1. Using both wrenches, remove the crank arms.
2. You'll be sliding your new parts on the crank shafts and assembling according to the following sequence:
Adjustment is accomplished by simply depressing the handle to retract the pin as shown:
3. Re-install crank arms onto the drums snuggly -- do not overtighten. Note correct left and right sides.
When done, it looks like this:
For an extra dollar, you can add a set of index decals (PN 81172001) that comes on all the current Drives -- note the difference on these old drives:
For a convenience and performance upgrade, the old style drives can also accept the new Drivewell seal (pn # 81037001), shown in this view (also installed on this Drive is the set of ST fins depicted):
This modernized 8 year old Drive has all the conveniences of the newest models and runs like a top (whoops, I still have to add the decals on this one)!
Your old Drive should also accept the latest style drums and cables, but there is no advantage to incurring the extra expense unless there are problems with your old parts.
