Post subject:  Protect your Turbos and STs with a Fin Sleeve

Those with ST and ST Turbofins may have noticed the thin aft edges getting a little bent out of shape like this (or worse):

IMO, this deteriorates the performance of the fins and is almost unavoidable.

Here's an easy, no cost sleeve to protect those fins when transporting or storing. Simply take some flat cardboard, fold it over the fins, trim and tape. This protects the aft fin edges from stretching over uneven or hot surfaces as well as gear getting laid on top of the Drive.

Here is what it looks like:

This should help keep those new fins performing at their best longer. 8)

Another great idea for Hobie to follow up on. How about a moulded plastic sleave that would truly protect the drives when transporting. 8)

Good idea RR.

Has anyone tried to design after-market fins for the Mirage drive? Just wondering how more rigid fins would peddle. Perhaps too much resistance and loss of thrust?

I would like to see fins that, when both are straight down, have less of a gap between the trailing edge of one and the leading edge of another -- might be a good option for a sailing centerboard, but perhaps would cause too much loss of pedalling efficiency (?).

That would really be nice -- a custom fit waterproof jacket. 8)

Post subject:  Another Option to Protect Your Mirage

Since I have a better chance of breaking something while storing or transporting it instead of using it I wanted something stronger than a sack or cardboard for my mirage drive with standard fins. I found this $10.00m 27â€
