All the straps have rotted away and the screws that secure them are very, very tight. So tight I am afraid if I really crank on them they will break loose inside the hull where there is a small molded boss that they screw into. Anything I can do or is it normal for them to be so tight ? Thanks |

I have no idea what you are talking about. It would help if you would mention which model boat you are referring to and what these "straps" are for. |

Never trust a woman. ![]() She said all 4 were Hobie. I guess because she bought them at the same place. ![]() 1. are Mirage model - finally did get those screws out - the 2 that hold down the seat. The cords that support them are rotted as are the seat back straps that hold the seat back in place. I assume the seats will have to be replaced and that should solve that problem. The anchors for all the other straps, tie downs, lift straps, etc are riveted and so far the small pieces that they hold are OK. In the future a couple look look they are going to go. They look like pop-rivets and what's involved if I need to remove/replace them ? 2. The other 2 are NOT Hobie - have a decal recessed in the back that says "Dimension". Those are the ones that have the anchors screwed down. They terminated all their tie downs, straps, etc., with a molded type terminal that have either broken or the cord/straps have rotted or broken. So unless you can help me on the rivet deal on the Hobie I'll have to keep looking. Thanks for you help. Bill |

This repair forum is mostly haunted by the Hobie sailboat crowd. Try cutting/pasting your post in the kayaking section. You're more likely to get an informed answer there. |
