Post subject:  A second revolution! And a question about storage...
So I talked my better half into getting a Hobie and we had a fun weekend. Hers turned out to be an 08 and there is a slight difference, but basically the same (the aft rudder bungie that holds it to the deck has an extra loop to hold down the aft lift T handle, shrug, not sure of other differences yet).

My question comes to storing them now. Up till now Ive stored my single revo in the middle of the garage on its side, so cars could still park in the garage.

The garage isnt 13' tall so I cant do the verticle storage.

Whats the cheapest yet still safe for the kayak way to be able to store them up on the walls? I was thinking some braces and a little padding from lowes attached to the studs and then put the kayaks up on the side and back walls. Anyone else addressed this?

I dont want to take up any floor space if possible due to the garage being tall (about 12') just wide enough for the two cars with about 3 feet to spare (double car garage with two doors).

This is my boat shed. The AI is suspended on its side with web straps and moved out from the wall by pulling the roller pipe forward. The straps are threaded though the base of the x-bars but I've hung other kayaks similarly. Loosen the straps and it lowers the boat to the truck rack.

The sail travels in a 4" x 10' pvc pipe with the end caps removed. The steel bars on the rack are covered with 1'1/4" pvc to prevent scratching the boat.

There has been no warping using this storage method.

Roadrunner, do you get any flat spots from using the wooden brackets for an extended period?

Baysailor, nice looking set-up! I've been using that wood/rope sling for about 4 years on our tandems and there have been no problems. The other boats use 2" straps -- an arrangement that I prefer. I've been using straps for about 2 1/2 years and again, no problems (except a little color bleed on the white boat).

The straps are easier to center up and allow you to easily spin the boat on its side for projects. I've just been too lazy to update the original board sling. 8)
