Can I use a hobie 18 jib on my old 70s aquacat 18? |

You can use an old bedsheet on the AquaCat if you want. Most anything can be made to fit, somehow, sort of. But whether or not it'll work well with the AC is another matter entirely. Sails are generally designed for the specific boat they're sold for. |

Depends on the original jib dimensions... if it matches closely enough. Length of forestay (long enough to fully hoist), distance to sheeting point... angle to sheeting point are all critical. A Hobie 18 has a forestay length of about 17'. |

http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=6835 I think you are looking at an Alpha 18. The jib is closer to a Hobie tiger or wildcat. Far shorter foot. Aqua cat was a lateen rig with no jib and never an 18. |

If you recut the head plate, the foot, the tack and the clew... remake the downhaul, then start thinking about re-shaping the sails.... sure anything is possible, however I suggest you consider the PITA factor. Seriously, if you run an H18, buy good sails for it, you'll never regret it. Try your Hobie dealer or lots of room on this Forum for new and used Sails for Sale/Wanted. Unless of course, you are a sail maker..... |
