| Post subject: | Make my own canvas rudder and comp tip covers? |
Anyone make their own covers for rudder and comp tip? Or jib snorkel? I was just thinking of picking up some water resistant rhino canvas and having a go at it, I do have access to sewing machines. Curious what weight canvas I should consider or other more well suited material? Thanks Forrest |

Sunbrella fabric is good if you expect that the covers will be outside most of the time. It is a little pricey but it lasts a long time. sm |

boat is stored outside, so yeah they would be outside most every hour of the year in 4 seasons. was looking at scrap ends on bay that can be had for $ per yard at 60" width, from a marine bimini supplier, lots of colors too. pretty cheap to play around |

I made front hull covers and a comp tip cover for my H-17 from an old canvas awning. I cut the awning so it would wrap around the hull tips and the comp tip with about 3" to spare, then stapled it together with a heavy duty paper stapler. I sewed them just inside the line of staples (I stapled the canvas a bit loosely), trimmed off the excess canvas, removed all the staples, turned the covers inside out (or outside in) to put the sewed seam on the inside. Done! To hold them on while towing, I set a plastic grommet in each cover and tied them on. |
