Should a 165 lb man be able to set up, sail, and right a T2 singlehanded? I know the Wave is designed for that, but what if I want to take a step up from that? |

I do all that with Getaway, so I think the answer is yes. |

Cool! How long does it take you from the time you arrive with your trailer until the time you are set up? Maybe I should consider a Getaway. I would like the biggest and fastest boat that I can handle alone. This gives me the most options. |

I single hand launch and recover a Hobie Getaway from a trailer at least a dozen times each summer. In my case, I'm able to store the boat mast up most of the summer, which makes it a piece of cake. From the time I hook up to the trailer to sailing off the beach, probably less than 20 minutes. I use a hand launch ramp (effectively a wide gravel beach), so never a wait to launch. Putting the boat away takes a similar amount of time. When I have to rig and launch from mast down, well, that's more like an hour. I use a EZ Mast Stepper 3, which works like a charm, but it definitely takes a while to rig up. Launching from mast down with two people, that's probably 35 to 45 minutes instead. In any event, the time to launch and recover is going to be very similar I'd think between the T2 and Getaway. I think the real question is which boat you'd prefer to sail, whether you want wings and how many folks you plan to take along. I selected the Getaway over the T2 partly on cost (no cheap T2s to be found for quite some time I'd think), but I do love the wings and the ability to sail with four adults. The sucker is as floaty as Hobie claims, and between the wings and front tramps, lots of room to spread out. Happy sailing! Jay |
