Have any of you guys sailed a H17 Sport (i posted the ? on teh 17 thread as well)? I may have a chance to pick one up and would like to have another boat so I can keep one local. How much of a performance sacrifice will I have from my 18, and how do they handle surf and waves? Thanks! |

I have sailed them. I like the boat. Does well in the ocean with the jib setup, not as well uni. The sails are the only issue I would have, the mylar material just doesn't hold up. The 17 is a great light wind performer, in the heavy stuff you will miss the 18 but thats about it. The 17 feels similar but lighter than my 18. The 18 is a pig thru waves and the 17 more dances on waves. I've seen a couple with squaretops and hooters, sweet! |

I had an H17 ten years ago...took it out in too high winds/waves...turtle'd it...the comtip pogo-stick'd in the ~20' of water...$600 boat part...p****-off partners...fixed it myself...year later the 17 got sucked off the beach by astorm...partner's insurance coverage made restitution...got an H-16 that led to the H-18. I'm more happy with the 18. |
