Has anybody installed a Hobie Baby Bob float on a H-18 mast? I know the baby bob was designed for the H-16, but I was wondering if anybody had fabricated a way to install it onto a H-18 mast. I don't have a comp tip. Thanks in advance. |

Check out the bracket idea shown on http://www.thebeachcats.com Technical Photo Gallery. http://www.thebeachcats.com/index.php?module=pictures&g2_itemId=34617 The Baby-Bob and the Mama-Bob have the same mount-bracket on the float. Without a comp tip this solution works great. I’ve had done this install when I first got my H-18. With the bolted on brackets, I can quickly remove the “Bob” from the mast by removing two attachment bolts and leave the angle brackets attached to the top of the mast. I’ve gotten over the fear of tipping the H-18 and no longer use the Baby-Bob but the angle brackets are still attached to the top on my mast. |

Yes, It goes on almost perfectly, with only a slight modification. My mast had a comp tip though. Go ahead and order the baby bob, It will fit and it will float your mast indefinitely when your boat capsizes...I have it on my H20 now. |

I just finished installing a baby bob to my H18. I used 1/8" thickness aluminum tubing that was 3 1/4" x 1 1/2" x 3/4". It wasn't quite wide enough but it should do just fine. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I had to grind down the little bump on top of the mast head and also cut away a bit of the aluminum angle thats in front of the uphaul sheave. |
