should I take free CAT that I think is an older F18 or an older hobie 14 for $500...Please tell me any Pros and Cons....The f 18 boat needs some real TLC, and I am not much of a sailor. My father is good sailor and we would kind of share the ownership. Please let me know what you think. oh ya the F 18 needs daggerboads a new tramp and sails, but I think the hulls are good. The Hobie 14 is in working order it just needs some new colors and life. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

There's no such thing as "an older F-18". The oldest one can't be more than 15 years old. If it's being sold for $500, it's a POS.

I have found out that it is Formula 18 I believe from the mid 1980's. It is not being sold. It was abandoned at a now closed marina. I think the hulls, rigging and rutters are good but it needs everything else.....i m going to see the hobie 14 that is in good shape in the morning....thanks for the help :D

Rudder, not "rutter". :D

Hobie had an 18 foot boat that they called a Formula boat, but it is not an F18 nor is it Formula 18 compliant. I don't think the F18 class came into existance until the mid 90's sometime. The Hobie 18 Formula had white aluminum parts, but I think that was the only thing different than a regular H18..
