Post subject:  Border Run Race

Just in case any of you are interested, the 2nd annual "Border Run" Race will be held April 23rd and 24th, 2010. This is a long distant off shore race between New Port Beach and San Diego Harbor which is approximately 70 miles of usually downwind sailing. Sure would like to see some more Hobie 18's registered! So far there are two including myself. More details at the link below. Hope to see some of you there! :D

Post it in the "events" section on the Hobie 18 Social Network. There are a lot of California sailors on there.

Sounds interesting......

Thundley, did you compete in this last year? I'm looking for a past competitor's viewpoint.

Thanks,

Mike,

No I did not compete in last years race but looking forward to next years. Obviously, it will involve many hours on the water depending on the wind. Based on the fact it took the only H18 who competed last year approximately 12 hours to finish, I'm thinking there was not much wind in last years race. I spoke to a competitor who sails an Inter20 who completed the race in approx 8 and confirmed that the wind was fairly light. Definitely helps to have a spinaker!

I'm In. I am very excited about this event. I actually can't wait for this event. I hope they get lots of boats.

Also what class is the Hobie 18 and should I do the long or short course.

The short course, don't think they'll even let you do the longer one.

FYI - The race commitee has changed the dates of this event from April 23rd and 24th to the 24th and 25th. This was apparently due to conflicts with the New Port to Ensenada Race. Their website has not been updated yet.
