The dimensions are as follows. Will it work well on my hobie 18? What is a standard size of a hobie 18 spinnaker, maybe I could modify the one I found for sale. And what do the numbers mean?

SL 38.2

Smg 21.0

Smw 21.0

SF 19.3

I cant tell you anything else.

SL = luff length = 38.2 ft - way too long for an 18's mast that's ~ 30 ft tall.

Smg / Smw = girth measurements (middle of the sail widths)

SF = foot length = 19.3 ft - also way too long - you'd need to sheet it behind the boat.

Your gonna need a sail maker with a digital plotter to recut and reglue the spin. Its most likely not worth it as the cost to modify used cloth just isn't worth it. Spin sails are very fragile and wear out quickly, trying to recut a used spin just doesn't make sense.

The costs involved are similar, rather go with new.

Triradial cut Technora with Spectra Luff
Luff 29'9", leech 24' 6", foot 18' 4

How about this one?

That chute would work if you have a solid mast. You cannot furl a spin sail, only a hooter or screecher can be furled. Spins sails are to full. They must be bag launched from the tramp or snuffed endpole or midpole.

Jeremy at Surf City Sailing makes a nice H-18 Spin kit. It's a tiger pole with a custom spin. Works great on the H-18. Prices are really nice too compared to the tiger spins.
