How do you get out the old (metal) cam out? Pound out the pin? Seems tough. Also any cool ideas for removing the tensioner screw corroded in place and cracked? I drilled one out and then torched (melted) the rest then re-tapped. Too much work. Tnx. |

I've never done it but I have a casting in front of me. I would think a large screw extractor might remove the plastic screw, if not I would melt it out as well. The cam has a double flared pin through it. Removing it will ruin the pin but I would think some sister screws would be a good replacement. Most likely drill the flare off one end and knock it out. The old style is a better system, if only it would kick loose. |

I agree, drill out one side of the flare pin (probaby about a 1/4" drill bit) then drive the pin through the casting using a punch. Replace with a sister screw. However, unless you already have a spare hook (it's not really a cam), I doubt you'll be able to find one since Hobie stopped supporting the old rudder system about 25 years ago. You'll most likely have to buy an entire used lower casting if you can find someone selling one. sm |

I have a good old casting that I just found and probably some new cams if I can find them. |
